Summer
Project for OPSSEN by C.K.Gautam
During this summer vacation we OPSSEN planned to do
something special but in usual way.All members were assigned to do this project
which included observing the socio-environmental happenings around us and try
to make a difference.
As i belong to Gaya,Bihar my project is mainly focussed on
Gaya but it also has something to be taken into account from other places.

I visited a place(Atri) in Gaya dist. of Bihar.Following are
the details of what i observed and did there.
With the help of my local friend i was able to arrange a
meeting with the local youths of a Tola. Most of them were temporary wage
workers;indulged in farming.Although all were litrate. But the heighest
qualified among them was 12 pass with commerce(Choteey). They have no permanent
work to smoothly run their life.
I talked to them about the population explosion. How i
convinced them ?
·
I made them know about the doubling time of
population.
·
Availability of limited resources.
·
With 1 or 2 children ,you will be able to give
them better education, food and bright future.
·
More hands more money is an idiot concept.I
pointed towards some of the well known public figure and the number of their
childrens.
·
Made them know that vasectomy doesn’t hampers
ones sexual desire.
·
Family planning allowence provided by government
on tubectomy.
Their responce:-
·
Laughed at me,stared hard.
·
They said they feel shy in visiting a doctor for
Copper T or condoms.
·
Operation(tubectomy & vasectomy) and copperT
has negative effects on sexual desire.
What at last:-
·
J
i was able to convice them after 3 hours of discussion.
·
They wished to meet me again.
Thanks to Manoj kr. & Sanjeet Kumar for making it
successful.

I also visited RED-CROSS society building of that village
but it was abondoned and delapidated.Local people had kept fodder and dung cake in the campus. No functioning of
RED-CROSS at that place.

Visit to “Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidhyalaya (govt.girls boarding school
for schedule caste girls)”
Good facilty in the
hostel.Teachers were caring and responsive. At the time i visited there some
girls were playing “kho-kho” and others “karate”.
They get free lodging, fooding, education and school –sports
dresses.

Place: New Delhi
What i saw was shocking.....from Pragati Maidan Metro
station one can see the WHO(WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION) building. It work for
public health improvement.Behind the building there is slum with people living
in unhealthy environment.A dirty drain was also flowing in between the building
and the slum area.
Another mind boggling thing what i saw was a child cobbler
on New Delhi railway station and a child labour working in a hotel near Noida
sector -15.

Place:Uttrakhand
Mass cutting of road-side trees on Dehradun-Haridwar road
for broadening the road.
4,8,July,2012
Place:-Patna
I met Gaurav Anshu, one of the member of OPSSEN and discussed
the working strategies of the organisation, loop holes in our work, developing
co-ordination among members.I received written suggestion from him.

Place:Manpur,Gaya,Bihar
I met some school childrens(under class 7) of Bal Vidya
Mandir School and talked about environmental pollution, loss of bio-diversity
and their suggestion on the concerned problems.
What i observed from the discussion:- Most of the students
have the theoretical knowlege about environmental problems but they find that
very few elders follow good environmental practices in their daily
life. Most parents do not show any
interest in these topics.
Other than this i also met some of the people who are
interested in social transfornmation.I met with the founder of “Sangam –jagriti
sansthan” ...
