ECO-FRIENDLY WINE/BEER

Making Wine/Beer Eco-Friendly

       problems associated:

  • Wine and other alcoholic drink bottle use quite thick glass. The glass make approx 40% of the total weight of the full bottle. Thus the tare weight of a full wine bottle is comparatively high to its gross weight. This increased weight causes increase in transportation cost and so the carbon footprints. These bottle creates a huge sum of glass wastes which is recycled or send to sanitary landfills.
  • Wine and beer bottle seals age often coated by capsule(which is made of Lead). It may contaminate the drink while opening the seal/cork. The Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution recommended to prepare report on Lead in alcoholic beverages. It was found that about 90% of the canned and bottle beers contain less than or equal to 10 micrograms /ltr of lead, where as half the draught beers samples contained greater than10 micrograms/ltr.It is concluded that consumption of beer containing 50 microgram/ltr. lead could significantly increase blood lead level.                  [ref.:Lead in alcoholic beverages.Sherlock JCPickford CJWhite GF.]
  • Alochol industry generated waste water increases the BOD of the water bodies.Other environment related problems include High Carbon emission and solid waste generation.                                                                                                                                                                                               Sollutions suggested:

  1. wine should be exported in bulk from the production farms and canned/bottled close to the market.
It will reduce the transportation cost and so the carbon footprints.
Also the local bottle making and recycling market will have positive influence.

    2.  Box-wine is other choice in packeging. It is more eco-friendly than the bottle wine
but the wine can be stored for limited time(~12 months).

    3. Tetra-Pack is yet another option. It is being used widely due to its several
         usefulness.

4.Using capsule (foil) made up of some safe material eg.aluminium, plastic etc.

Ayurveda and environment

            Ayurveda and environment

Ayurveda is one of the most comprehensive healing systems in the world, dealing integrally with body, mind and spirit. The earliest literature on Indian medical practice appeared during the Vedic period in India. The Susruta Saṃhita and the Charaka Saṃhita are among the initial compilation works on Ayurveda. [1]
Ayurveda considers that the whole universe is made up of five essential elements-Building blocks that all life forms contain (pancha mahabhutas). These are akasha
(ether), vayu (air), teja (fire), aap (water) and prithvi
(earth). These five elements exist at all scales of life and in both organic and inorganic matters of the universe. Ayurvedic  theory asserts that each human possesses a unique combination of doṣas that define that person's temperament and characteristics. These three substances — doṣas are important for health, because when they exist in equal quantities, the body will be healthy, and when they are not in equal amounts, the body will be unhealthy in various ways. .. In biological system, such as humans, elements are coded into three (tridosha) forces, which govern all life processes (kapha, pitta and vata). Each of the doshas is composed
of one or two elements.
Vata is composed of space and air,
Pitta of fire, and
kapha of water and earth.
The tridosha regulates every physiological and psychological process in the living organism.A harmonious state of the three doshas creates balance and health; an imbalance, in the form of excess (vriddhi) or deficiency (kshaya), manifests as a sign or symptom of disease.[2] Thus one can conclude that even our treatment system find its roots in nature and its abiotic and biotic components.

Use electronic ticket or have a soft copy of your railticket. You can also carry the booking confirmation massage send by the railway. This is legal.

one thing you can surely do......! when ever preparing posters for environment awareness, use half written pages ,pamphalets, one side printed pages, old question paper.......one thing which will count here is presentation.....surely you will do it.https://www.facebook.com/OPSSEN

Semal(Palash) tree,changing life

Semal (Palash/Silk cotton) tree, changing life

Mustafagunj, Muzaffarpur, Bihar

Here is a tradition of planting 10 Semal trees on the birth of every girl child. This tradition was started in about 1975.There was no bank at that time,so the ladies decided to plant Semal tree which on maturity may help financially at the time of marriage of the girls.Due to this more than 60% of the village land area is covered by trees. This is not only strengthening their financial status but also improving the environmental condition.

Another village of Bihar, Dharhara in Bhagalpur district where the villagers have, for long, been planting fruit trees on the birth of every girl.
